The Red Tail Hawk of Newport:

Whenever I spot a Red Tail Hawk soaring in the sky or perched in a tree, I tell whomever I’m with, "Ahhh, it’s going to be a good day...That's a sign of good medicine to me."

Why? My Native name is Quanunon Menuhkesu, Nipmuc for “Strong Hawk.” This is the name I was given during my family’s Nipmuc naming ceremony. I am of Nipmuc/Mohegan, (mother’s lineage) and Cherokee/Blackfoot, (father’s lineage), decent.

Buck Sighting at Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge:

Over the weekend, I traveled to the Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge in search of peace & tranquility. I was looking to reunite with Mother Earth.

While walking along Ocean View Loop Trail, I connected with this buck feeding in the brush. It was amazing!

Did you know, from the 1600's to the 1800's, Sachuest Point was used for farming & sheep grazing? During World War II, the Navy used the site as a rifle range & communications center. A Walk Along Ocean View Loop Trail was Good Medicine:

I traveled to the Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge in hopes of photographing some relatives. The walk along Ocean View Loop Trail, was all that I needed. Being able to close my eyes while listening to the sounds of the waves crashing along the shore, smelling the ocean air, & feeling the breeze blow across my sun lite face was good medicine!

While traveling to the Narragansett Powwow in Charlestown, RI, I drove by this beautiful field of white flowers shimmering in the early morning light.
